SCRAP 2022 has begun! Picked up our permit today—signed by our new and talented Madam Dr. Director of Archaeology! #scraparky 🎉 We’ll be posting updates each week on our website (scraparchaeology.com) and follow us on Instagram and Facebook!
Ph.D. Candidate Matt Longstaffe has a poster at this week's Canadian Archaeological Association's Annual Meeting in Edmonton, Alberta. If you find yourself there in-person or are registered for online attendance, please stop by the Friday evening "Poster Session: In Memory of Dr. Terry Gibson" and check out "AMS 14C Dating of Residential Construction & Occupation at the Ancient Maya Townsite of Alabama, East-Central Belize." Also, co-directors Dr. Morton & Dr. Peuramaki-Brown will present their recent Northern Alberta boomtown research in the session "New Light on Old Cities" on Friday afternoon. On International Women’s Day, we’d like to once again thank all the amazing women who have taken part in SCRAP—in one form or another—over the years. These women have challenged, explored, taught, studied, surveyed, excavated, analyzed, innovated, illustrated, written, presented, cooked, cleaned, toured/guided, chauffeured, trailblazed, constructed, fixed, mentored, shared, organized, advocated, fundraised, cared, and so much more. SCRAP would not exist without you—Thank You! #iwd2022 #scraparky #belize #archaeology #stanncreekdistrict ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍🤎
Thank you to Matt, who selected our excellent article for discussion this week, focused on geoarchaeological perspectives on mound building. It is an excellent resource for our SCRAP team, which deals with complex earthen-core architecture at Alabama. See below for article reference, summary, and discussion questions. At this week’s reading group we discussed field preparation for a possible 2022 season. Link in bio. #scraparky #belize #archaeology #stanncreekdistrict
